Hunt Industrial Services Pallet Recycling and Market Expansion Grant. St. Louis Jefferson County Solid Waste District Hunt Industrial Services is a family owned business in Pevely Missouri who are in the wood pallet repair and recycling business.  The wood pallets that cannot be repaired are recycled into an environmentally friendly mulch.  Respect Earth's Resources wrote a grant for them through the St. Louis Jefferson Solid Waste District to expand their recycled mulch business.

Hunt Industrial has a sister division, Mulch Outlet, which markets and sells the mulch.   In 2009, Mulch Outlet diverted a total of 1486 tons of wood pallet waste and 28 tons of steel from entering landfills for a total of 1514 tons!   The pallet waste that is diverted from the solid waste stream from the pallet recycling efforts include both wood fiber from the wood and steel from the nails and bolts used to hold pallets together.  Mulch Outlet currently sells bulk mulch and hopes to expand their market by selling smaller units of the mulch in bags.

RNA Worldwide

Respect Earths Resources wrote the winning grant which will allow RNA Worldwide to purchase needed equipment for their recycling services.

RNA is an Electronics and Metals Recycling company located in Arnold, Missouri who offers secure full service pick-up and a drop off recycling center for: appliances, electronics, metal, computers, and other items. RNA accepts all kinds of unwanted and discarded electronics, appliances, medical equipment and other items. These items are gathered at community recycling drives, dropped off by the public or are picked up by our recycling team. Once the material is brought to the warehouse in Arnold, Missouri, they determine whether the item can be refurbished or recycled.

Equipment that is refurbished is sold to consumers or donated to charities. RNA works with several non-profit charities including Arnold Food Pantry, Operation Food Search and Operation Home Front. Many of the refurbished items are donated to Operation Home Front, a non-profit organization that provides emergency assistance to military troops and their families. Those who purchase the refurbished items can rest assured that RNA, the right way, stands behind the quality of their products. In fact, they offer a limited warranty on reconditioned products.

Items that cannot be refurbished are recycled. This is accomplished by taking each item apart and separating it into various parts. Once the items are broken down and separated, it is sold to a local processor as raw materials. RNA never ships items overseas! RNA believes in practicing high ethical standards and strives to make their recycling facility a highly reputable service. Because of this, they have partnered with E-Cycle St. Louis, St. Louis Public Works and others.

RNA is a Tier II Recycling Facility meaning they follow strict standards set by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and MODNR (Missouri Department of Natural Resources). As a Tier II facility, they have adopted the Missouri e-cycle Standards’, or MOEST, Best Management Practices as our standard operating procedures.

Respect Earth’s Resources uses sustainable business practices and has used RNA for electronics, cords, scrap metal and plastic recycling. We stand behind RNA and encourage others who are interested in recycling to check them out. www.rnaworldwide.com
